Depending on the driver's skill set (screenshots are handy as The Pitts indicated) those pickup points might be a long distance, costing you extra money.
ME : no truck for myself, because I will just do QUICK jobs. If you have two trucks just assign/reallocate them to two drivers. You of course have to buy a personal truck first, but you can reallocate that to a hired driver whenever you like - it will leave you in a slot with no truck. Just watch the crawl for when they level up and you can switch that selection after each level-up to direct their skill progression.

But, weird: I resetted my tour right after the beginning with loading a savegame, then rode extremely careful, but still from time to time you hear the 'ping' and read the notice "trailer harm 2%", later "trailer harm 3%" and more later "trailer harm 4%" Nothing happened what could cause that!
